Room 404: Complete Walkthrough — the 404-Day Lease, Twelve Tenants and Four Endings

Spoiler warning: this guide contains every puzzle answer, clue location and ending trigger in Room 404. If you only want the chapter route and how the four endings open, read the all-endings walkthrough. If you want to solve it yourself, read only "Before you start".

Which build this was checked against: the live build of 2026-10-26 at https://room404.gamestrategists.com/. That build rewrote the story around "the 404-day lease + carrier 013", changed the evidence board from a 21-entry directory to 18 clues that can all be collected, and ships 7 emails, 10 puzzles and 4 endings. Every answer below can be traced to the game data. If the live build changes again, the game is right and this page is stale; tell us on the contact page.

1. One rule to remember: 404 days

This is not a ghost story. It is a lease story.

• On June 15, 2026, Lin Xia signs a lease for Room 404, Building 4, Qingcheng Garden. The minimum term is 404 days.
• Her brother Lin Yuan's last location ping was at 03:04 on August 17, 2023, in basement level 3 of Building 4.
• The previous tenant, Zhang Wei, moved in on May 6, 2023 and lost contact on June 13, 2024 — exactly 404 days.
• Before him, eleven more people lived in 404. Every one of them went from move-in to disappearance in exactly 404 days.

So no date in the game is decoration. See two dates? Subtract them. See "404"? Think lease length, not HTTP status.

2. Before you start: the interface

• Left sidebar: ten simulated websites. Locked sites open as the acts advance. Clicking a site opens its first page; the site's top navigation switches between pages in the same site.
• Search bar: searches inside the current site. Connecting clues across sites is your job. Search one keyword at a time.
• Evidence panel: collected clues. At the top is the Tenant Register: two records per act, twelve in total.
• Notes panel: for your own timeline. The game will not organise it for you.
• Mail panel: 7 story emails, unlocked by act. The last one is from "013 · Lin Yuan".
• Saving: browser localStorage on the game's subdomain. Close the tab and continue later; it does not sync across devices.
• Language: use the language toggle in the top bar; the English site lives at /en/.

3. The six-act route (enough clues to unlock each act)

Site unlocks follow the acts: rental/social at act 0; blog/forum/news at act 1; government/radio at act 2; Genesis intranet and the camera log at act 3; darknet at act 4. Acts advance at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 clues.

Act 1 — Moving In

1. Qingcheng Rental › Listing Details: read the Room 404 listing and collect the Rental Contract (clue 1) and the Torn USB Drive (clue 3).
2. At the bottom, click "The inventory is here": open the Owner's Storage Inventory and collect Lin Yuan's Recorder (clue 16). The recorder holds her brother's voice: "Xia, don't come down alone. On day 404, leave."

Three clues. Act 2 opens.

Act 2 — The Missing Tenant

1. Zhang Wei's Blog › Home: the Wi-Fi name ZhangWei_404 (clue 2).
2. Zhang Wei's Blog › The Last Diary: Zhang Wei's Diary (clue 4). He subtracted every previous lease: all 404 days.
3. Legends Forum › Help thread: the Anonymous Forum Post (clue 5), a list of twelve disappearances.
4. Qingcheng Daily › the 1998 fire or the 2024 missing-person report: the News Archive clue (clue 6).

Six clues. Act 3 opens.

Act 3 — Voices in the Walls

1. Gov Records Portal › Construction Archives: the Construction Approval (clue 7). The appendix requires one "attendant" on site at all times.
2. Gov Records Portal › Missing Persons Archive: the Missing Persons Archive (clue 8). Twelve filed cases, plus one unfiled record: Lin Yuan, 2023-08-17, "left voluntarily."
3. People's Radio › Frequency Tuner: the Abnormal Radio Recording (clue 9). The 2003 insert says "They are below."
4. People's Radio › the 2003 transcript: Appendix B at the bottom is the 2023 Insert (clue 17); the voiceprint matches Lin Yuan at 98.7%.

Ten clues. The act-5 threshold is open, but do not skip act 4 — it holds the key evidence.

Act 4 — Genesis Tech

1. Genesis Intranet › Terminal Console: the Founder's Notes (clue 14). "A mind separated from its body stays stable for only 404 days; on day 404 a new neural signal must be connected."
2. Genesis Intranet › Internal Mail: the Experiment Termination Notice (clue 10). The company closed in 2003; the server was never deregistered.
3. Genesis Intranet › Server Logs: the Carrier 013 Log (clue 13) and Lin Yuan's Last Recording (clue 15). 013 is not a tenant; 013 is the carrier.
4. Room 404 Cam Log: the Surveillance Anomalies (clue 11). At 03:04 on 2026-06-20, Lin Xia logs in as administrator for the first time.

Act 5 — The Truth of 404

1. Darknet Archive › Server Architecture: the Server Architecture (clue 12) and Partition 013 (clue 18). Twelve tenant partitions, plus an unlisted 013. 013 holds no consciousness data, only a looping audio file.

All 18 clues collected. Every site is now open; go back for anything you missed.

4. The ten puzzles: answers and derivations

1. USB Password Recovery (Act 1 · Rental)

• Prompt: the torn drive is marked "1998" and "404."
• Derivation: 1998 is the first extraction year, 404 is the room number. Combine them as a date: 1998-04-04.
• Answer: 19980404 (also accepts 1998-04-04, 1998404).

2. Redacted File Decryption (Act 1 · Government)

• Prompt: five blacked-out fields. Reveal all five, then enter the keyword.
• Answer: GNS-404 or Project Tide.

3. Day 404 (Act 2 · Daily)

• Prompt: Zhang Wei moved in on 2023-05-06; his last post was 2024-06-13. How many days lie between?
• Derivation: subtract the two dates. Do not count years, and do not look for a seven-to-eight-year pattern.
• Answer: 404 (also accepts 404 days, day 404).

4. Audio Frequency Decoding (Act 3 · Radio)

• Prompt: tune the receiver to the anomalous signal.
• Derivation: the late-night FM band. The presets include 87.9 and 88.0; the anomaly sits at 88.0.
• Answer: 88.0 or 880. 87.9 is the station itself and is rejected.

5. Employee ID Verification (Act 4 · Genesis)

• Prompt: the intranet wants an employee ID.
• Derivation: not in a profile — in the signature of the "Experiment Termination Notice": project code GNS-404.
• Answer: GNS-404 (also accepts GNS404, gns-404).

6. Surveillance Timeline (Act 4 · Camera log)

• Prompt: put the five "node events" in chronological order.
• Derivation: 1998-07-31, 2003-02-14, 2011-09-07 and 2024-06-13 are four extractions; 2026-06-20 is Lin Xia logging in. The last one is not a disappearance.
• Answer: 1998-2003-2011-2024-2026 (also accepts > separators).

7. Dark Web Access Code (Act 5 · Darknet)

• Prompt: a four-character code from the first four puzzle answers.
• Derivation: p1 19980404 → 1; p2 GNS-404 → G; p3 404 → 4; p4 879 → 8.
• Answer: 1G48 or 1P48 (also accepts 1g48, 1-G-4-8).

8. Server Password (Act 5 · Darknet)

• Prompt: a Morse sequence is hidden in the archive.
• Derivation: the Morse is on the radio tuner page at 88.0: T—I—D—E.
• Answer: TIDE (also accepts tide, TIDEPROJECT, tideproject).

9. Identity Verification (Act 5 · final-chapter gate)

• Prompt: the camera system wants an administrator code; the only hint is "think about where all of this started."
• Derivation: not a name, not a date — the room itself.
• Answer: ROOM404 (also accepts room404, room-404).
• What it does: opens "The Final Choice." It is not an ending; it is the key to the final chapter.

10. The Final Choice (Act 5 · finale)

• Four roads: call the police, connect, go down and pull the power, read the twelve names on air.
• Police and Connect are open to anyone who reaches the finale. Pull the Power needs 12 clues + both darknet puzzles. Read the Names needs 16 clues + all eight archive puzzles.
• Triggers and ending text are in the all-endings walkthrough.

5. The four endings and their gates

Two common misunderstandings:

1. The "true" ending is not a crossover and does not tie the other endings together. It resolves this story only: it turns twelve "tenant IDs" back into names.
2. Police and Connect are not failure screens. All four endings have a full ending, a register coda and a "Back to the investigation" exit. To try another road, return to the camera page and open "The Final Choice" again.

6. All 18 clues

The evidence board holds 18 clues and you can collect all 18 — none of them is listed but impossible to find. The table above was copied off the board in the game, one line at a time. If the game changes, trust what you see on screen.

7. The register and 013

The register unseals two pages per act and is complete before the final chapter. Every tenant's move-in and extraction dates are 404 days apart:

The thirteenth person is not on the register: Lin Yuan, carrier 013, connected at 03:04 on 2023-08-17, status "carrier / living." He was not uploaded as a tenant; he is the one still alive, using his neural signal to renew the other twelve. The blank line at the end of the register is his.

With all twelve pages collected, every ending gains a "Tenant Register · Twelve People" page. It changes no branch; it is the shared coda.

8. Common blockers

• Can't find the government site: it is the fifth sidebar entry, "Gov Records Portal." Inside, the top navigation has "Construction Archives" and "Missing Persons Archive." If the nav looks empty, confirm you are at act 3 (6 clues).
• Nav click did nothing: this build fixed the site-top navigation; if it still happens, refresh and re-enter the site from the sidebar.
• No puzzle button: puzzles appear only in the matching site and act. At act 5 every site is open, so you can go back for any unsolved puzzle.
• No "Read the names" option: it needs 16 clues and all eight archive puzzles. A locked option prints exactly how many clues and which puzzles are missing.
• Phone flashlight: the finale flashlight accepts touch. If the screen goes black, move a finger across the screen, not a mouse.
• Changing device: progress lives in localStorage and does not sync. Clearing browser data is a full reset; the tenant register survives on the same device until a full wipe.

9. Change log

• 2026-10-26: full rewrite against the live build. The story is now "the 404-day lease + carrier 013"; evidence is 18 collectable clues (not a 21-entry directory with 15 collectable); emails 9 → 7; puzzles 3, 6, 7, 9 and 10 have new answers and explanations; added the storage box, the 2023 insert, partition 013 and four new endings; fixed two live defects (site-top navigation did not respond, and the government site key did not match its pages).
• 2026-09-29: previous revision (four endings, 15 collectable clues, site-unlock table).
