Renew for One Day Complete Walkthrough: Eleven Searches, Three Renewals, Three Endings

Spoiler warning: this page gives all eleven search answers, the three dates behind the stamp, and the conditions and cost of each ending. On a first run, read sections 1, 2 and 9 only, and leave the answer table for when you are actually stuck.
None of the numbers here are from memory: 52 records, 26 catalogue cards, 13 clues, 11 requestable damaged items, 11 searches, 3 endings and 53 images were all counted by walking the site from end to end. The game is at https://renewal.gamestrategists.com/ and the main-site page is at https://gamestrategists.com/games/renewal/ .
1. What kind of game this is
Renew for One Day is the website of a district library on 30 June 2026, its last day open. You are Xu Zhou, twenty-three. At the evening story session in 2013 you were ten, one of six children, and the first one pulled out through the vent. You have come back to return An Umbrella for the Rain, borrowed 14 June 2013, due 14 July 2013, still marked "not returned".
There are no levels, no quest list and no timer. You have exactly four verbs:
- Search: type a number, date, count or phrase you read in the evidence into the catalogue terminal;
- Request: press "request from the closed stacks" on a requestable item and see what it looks like now;
- Renew: three chances, each one borrowing one page of "tomorrow";
- Stamp: before the finale you are handed a date stamp that accepts any date.
The five acts hold 52 records in total: seven in Act 0, twelve in Act 1, twelve in Act 2, thirteen in Act 3 and eight in Act 4, plus three ending texts.
Behind the terminal sit three layers, and it is worth saying so here so that the answer table below does not read as guesswork:
- Narrative records (52): all of them sit in one catalogue index; nothing is hidden behind a prerequisite read. Reading in order is a suggestion, not a gate;
- Catalogue cards (26): listed from the first minute, searchable by anyone, never readable in full. They make the library real outside the story, and they guarantee the search box always has something in it;
- The case file (13 clues): empty at the start. Each line lights up only after you do something, and it records only what you confirmed yourself — no conclusions.
The terminal gives you one box and one index for the whole library: title, author, call number and full text are searched in a single pass. There is no field selector and no "narrow it down". An empty result answers with "did you mean", drawn from the entire catalogue, so no page name is hidden from you.
2. Three things to remember
First, requests are irreversible. Eleven damaged items can be requested. Each request turns that record permanently into its damaged state, removes the surface version from the catalogue, and darkens the site by one more panel. Pages you have already read keep their old version — you can go back and look at the dry photograph, knowing it is wet now. Section 9 has a reading order for anyone who would rather finish the story before the lights go out.
Second, you only get three renewals. Each one is spent on a page of "tomorrow" (tomorrow's returns record, tomorrow's inventory slip, tomorrow's duty roster). Spending all three does not block the finale.
Third, the stamp is not free choice. Stamping 30 June 2026 is refused — that is the closing day. The right date has to be assembled from the gauge, the pump and the story-session poster.
3. Acts 0 and 1: read these first
After the title screen the homepage is the terminal, and only two records are listed as newly catalogued. Read them in this order and every later step connects:
- The card pocket inside the book — read this page first: on the borrowing card in the back cover, all four loans read
LB-K-0771, and the "handled by" box on the last line carries a handwritten "Ye"; - the closing notice — closing time, the date the book drop stops taking returns, and an attachment number at the end;
- your reader card LB-K-0771 — the last line is thirteen overdue notices;
- the returns and renewal rules — the grace period is "one day", three words that pay off at the finale;
- the last story-session poster — six names on the back, one crossed out and rewritten.
The card number comes out of the card pocket; nothing about it is a guess. That is also the first search: type 0771 and the system answers with the children's card issued in 2011.
4. Act 2: find a person
The volunteer rota in Act 1 is where the name Ye Chunfen first appears; Act 2 is about why she is not in the staff register.
Read from the register towards the ledgers:
- the staff register — no such person;
- the district dispatch-worker ledger — she is there, staff number LB-0412;
- the dispatch-worker pay sheet — her signature;
- the 2013 Safe Unit commendation file — the commendation names "the library", not her;
- the union hardship and condolence payment sheet — no record;
- the fire inspection record and the flood-gate procedure — the "manual priority" line is circled in red;
- the electrical-room repair order and the pump repair order — start time 23:07;
- the gauge photograph — 1.42 metres;
- the access-control summary — one card goes in at 23:41 every night;
- the lost-property attachment: a badge and a borrowing slip — badge LB-0412, unclaimed.
Item 10 only appears once you have searched 23:41, and it is the key to the hidden ending.
5. Act 3: the first request
The first page of Act 3 is the closed-stacks request slip for June 2026, number DB-2026-0630. Reading it is what lets a request be accepted; the search desk does not gain any extra filters.
Type the slip number into the terminal. Only then does the holdings page show a "request from the closed stacks" button. The first press cuts the whole site to the closed-stack dark, and the red emergency lamp starts to breathe; from that point everything you read may be wet.
Suggested order: several Act 3 pages only exist after a request (the water-damaged book, the inventory variance sheet, the pump run sheet, the full access log, the duty roster, the vent maintenance record, the emergency-lamp replacement record, the story-session transcript, her staff card, the returns record, the lit empty stacks, tonight's pencil rota, the compact-shelving maintenance slip). If it is your first run, finish the surface pages of Acts 1 and 2 first. Requests do not delete old pages, but they change the colour of the whole site, and doing the reading first saves you a lot of going back.
6. The eleven search answers
Every puzzle accepts more than one spelling; the table lists the most common one. The left column is where you read it.
| # | Where you read it | Type | What it returns |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | the card pocket (borrowing card inside the back cover) | 0771 or LB-K-0771 or Xu Xiaozhou | your children's card, holder aged ten in 2013, status overdue |
| 2 | last line of the reader's record | 13 | thirteen overdue notices |
| 3 | the volunteer rota | Ye Chunfen or Ms. Ye | her name, for the first time |
| 4 | the holdings page for An Umbrella for the Rain | K-0000 or staff card | her staff card, one item not returned |
| 5 | the access-control summary | 23:41 or 2341 | the card that goes in every night and never comes out |
| 6 | the dispatch-worker ledger | LB-0412 or 0412 | her staff number |
| 7 | the gauge photograph | 1.42 or 142 | the water level at 23:07 on 14 June 2013 |
| 8 | the vent maintenance record | 64 or 64cm | 64 centimetres of clear height, a child fits |
| 9 | the closed-stacks request slip | DB-2026-0630 or 0630 | the request is accepted, the button appears |
| 10 | the pump run sheet | 4764 or 4,764 | the number of nights the pump has run in thirteen years |
| 11 | the lost-property attachment | LB-0412 or badge | the unclaimed badge, key to the hidden ending |
Answer 11 is the same string as answer 6, but the terminal only accepts it after you have read the request slip and the badge page — the same digits mean two different things at two different stages.
7. The date stamp: three dates
Before the finale, the closing team's supplies include a date stamp that accepts any date. The three dates each have a source:
- 2013-06-14: the gauge photograph's timestamp and the pump's 23:07 start record, plus "the second Friday of June" on the story-session poster. The second Friday of June 2013 is 14 June. This is the date ending B needs.
- 2013-07-14: the due date on her staff card K-0000. This is the second date ending C needs.
- 2026-06-30: the closing day. The system refuses it — "that date is past the closing day; operations have stopped". That is not a bug; it is how you learn that a date in this system only acts on something that has already happened.
8. The three endings and what they cost
| Ending | Condition | What you do | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| A, Overdue | none; the default | stamp nothing, drop the book in the returns bin | her record still reads "not returned" |
| B, Renewed | stamp 2013-06-14 | fill the "handled by" box with your own children's card number LB-K-0771 | you are ten again, you stay twenty-four hours in the closed stacks, and you drop the gate from the inside |
| C, On the Shelf (hidden) | the badge plus both 2013-06-14 and 2013-07-14 | sign in with her badge, enter Ye Chunfen as the handler | one day only; her name still never reaches the commendation list |
None of the three is a win or a loss. The choice cannot be undone; to see another one there is a "start over" button on the ending screen — the first press only asks, the second clears the save on this device and returns to the title screen.
9. Getting stuck, and a safe order
- Searches return nothing: read the "did you mean" line first. If the word belongs to a puzzle but the page that carries it has not been read, the terminal lists that page directly; open it, read it, and search once more. No field switch, no narrowing.
- No "request from the closed stacks" button: you have to type the slip number
DB-2026-0630into the terminal first. Without an accepted slip, no holdings page shows the button. - The badge page is missing: after the access-control summary, search
23:41; the badge attachment then appears in lost property. - The stamp is refused: check the format (
2013-06-14and20130614are both accepted), and make sure the date is not after the closing day. - You want to compare: every requested record keeps a "show what it said before the request" toggle. It is the single most worthwhile control in the game — use it once.
10. The numbers
| Item | Count | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Clickable records | 52 | Split across five acts; each act head says how many it holds |
| Catalogue cards (never readable in full) | 26 | Title and number on the card, and not every book can be borrowed |
| Clues | 13 (none at the start) | The clue panel gains one each time you find one |
| Acts | 5 (0–4) | A prologue and four acts; finish an act's searches to move on |
| Requestable damaged items | 11 | Eleven can be brought up from the stacks, and a request cannot be undone |
| Catalogue puzzles | 11 | Eleven phrases waiting to be searched; the answer is not among your options |
| Physical actions | 3 (request, stamp, fill the fourth box) | These three need hands, not typing |
| Endings | 3 (2 main + 1 hidden) | The hidden one appears only once you have found a particular thing |
| Images | 53, all AI-generated fictional illustrations | Both captions and alt text say so |
| Prose | 17,864 characters (14,414 surface, 2,944 inner, 506 endings) | Surface and inner are two versions of the text, counted separately |
The fifty-three images in the game and the header visual are AI-generated fictional illustrations, not photographs; every caption and alt text says so. Luwan District Library, Ye Chunfen, Xu Zhou, Shao Bingwen, Han Lei and every reference number, date and form are invented.
11. The route in one line
Reader card 0771 → thirteen notices 13 → rota Ye Chunfen → holdings page K-0000 → access control 23:41 → badge → ledger LB-0412 → gauge 1.42 → vent 64 → request slip DB-2026-0630 → pump 4764 → stamp 2013-06-14 (add 2013-07-14 for the hidden line) → fourth box LB-K-0771 or Ye Chunfen → choose an ending.
To see all three endings in one sitting: take A first (fill nothing), use "start over" on the ending screen, then a second run with one date for B, and a third that finds the badge and stamps both dates for C. The prose is the same every time; only the last screen changes.
