Eye of the Abyss: Four Endings, 42 Clues and Eight Sessions

This piece does not give puzzle answers; those are in the Complete Walkthrough. It answers three things: what each ending costs, how the fourth door actually opens, and which act delivers the 42 clues.
The four endings
Sealed
You deliver the nineteen tapes and your mother’s duplicate log to the families, not to a newspaper. Gu Weian dies a week before the hearing; the case never reaches the news. After Shen Yuan hears his father’s tape he sleeps through the night for the first time. Your mother’s last tape stays in the drawer, unplayed.
Cost: you cannot testify. The truth stays in nineteen family drawers.
Published
You give the files to a newspaper willing to verify them. The story destroys Gu Weian and pushes Shen Yuan and the survivors back in front of the cameras. Chen Xiaoman shuts the site down and says: we got them out, and then we handed them back. You keep the story and lose three patients.
Cost: nineteen people are seen again, but not in a way they chose.
The Double
You accept Gu Weian’s offer and trade the tapes for Shen Yuan’s safety. He is moved to a quiet sanatorium in the provincial capital under a new name. You take over the Eye of the Abyss and start answering the people who hear the hum. A year later a new letter arrives, beginning: “Please help me.”
Cost: you keep your licence and stop testifying. You become the next person who records others.
Looking Back
You return to B-3 with the nineteen tapes, switch off the fan, and finish your mother’s last tape. Her voice is young; there is fire behind it. She says: “Don’t avenge me. Testify for me.” You say into the recorder: “I heard you.” There is no abyss in the mirror, only a window.
Cost: you give up “she might still be alive.”
How the fourth door opens
It is not chosen. It is earned by reading.
- Trigger: fill the evidence board to 42/42.
- One clue short and the fourth door only shows a message; it does not open.
- The easiest clues to miss are the six in act eight: "The Secret of the Eye", "The Truth of the Mirror", "Shen Yuan's Last Message", "The Truth of Existing", "Self-Affirmation" and "The True Ending".
- The nineteenth name, the fan speed, who named it, Zhou Ning’s duplicate log and Gu Weian’s signature are also in act eight.

The eight sessions
One unlocks per act, and all eight are complete before the finale. Shen Yuan comes four times, a Heshan worker and a night nurse once each, and twice the patient is Lin Mo herself.
- Session seven (her mother) and session eight (the silence) are the two hinges on Lin Mo’s side.
- Once all eight are collected, every ending gains a “Ninth Session” appendix.
- The sessions do not change the branch or give puzzle answers; they record what each side of the chair heard.
The nineteen tapes
The tapes are narrative evidence, not a separate counter.
- The first eighteen are B-3 observation records: Shen Jianguo, Zhang Jianguo, Chen Xiaoman and others.
- The nineteenth is in the lining of Zhou Ning’s locker, labelled “For Xiao Mo, when she dares to listen.”
- You cannot miss a tape; read the Recording Archive pages. The fourth door depends on the 42 clues, not on a tape count.
Three common misreadings
- “The fourth door needs all the tapes.” No. It needs all the clues. The tapes are story.
- “Looking Back is a hidden option, so pick the hidden choice.” No. Looking Back is the fourth door and needs every file; Published is the second door.
- “The sessions affect the ending.” No. They add an appendix to every ending and do not change the branch.
